There's an old joke:
A man is in his front yard crouched on his lawn and fiercely combing through it with his hands. His neighbor walks by, sees him and asks what he's doing. The man on the grass explains, "I'm trying to find my keys." "Oh, do you need some help?" asks the neighbor. "Sure thanks," responds the man, as the neighbor crouches on the lawn next to him and joins the search.
Nearly an hour later, with them both diligently continuing to look through the man's front yard with no results, the neighbor finally asks the man, "Say, do you have a sense of how your keys got lost in the first place?"
"Yes," replied the man. "I accidentally dropped them while cleaning out my basement."
"Wait," said the neighbor, "if you... dropped them in your basement... shouldn't you be... searching for them down there... instead of out here... on your front lawn?"
"I thought about looking for them down there," replied the man, "but... the lighting's just so much better out here."
Something in life I've learned one never wants to find one's self saying:
"If we had let ourselves face the problem...
its true nature & true scope...
we would have fought smarter,
and then stopped...
what we've, by now,
just effectively...
let happen."
We're doing a lot of great work with getting out the vote and expanding pro-democracy at a mind-blowingly encouraging rate.
But there's a problem where we have a Supreme Court that's willing to break the law to negate anything we do. They've also shown a willingness to decide elections for us. If you combine their propensity to break the law, and defy reason to choose whoever they actually want for the president no matter who actually wins... preventing them from bending the law and coming up with an insane rationale to pick Donald Trump as the president this November, even after Biden wins, without them even denying nor contesting that he's won... is the biggest ultimate problem where we need to be fiercely looking for a solution before November.
That's the problem in our basement. And we need to be looking in that basement to face it and solve it, rather than exclusively remaining out here in the light where the solution to that problem isn't being looked for nor addressed at all. Getting out the vote is great. It’s imperative that we continue to do so, and not let up. But in terms of the actual problem facing every American citizen regarding having our country’s destiny being ruled by a Supreme Court with ultimate power, and a repeatedly and overtly demonstrated agenda to support the rise and rule of fascism in our nation by changing any rule they desire to support a man and a party being reinstated to power to force us down this dark national path in 2025… merely relying on our being sure to vote in November… is merely pursuing a solution to the obvious darker problem… by searching for it ,only where “the lighting is good.”
And yes, we should still continue our fight where the lighting is great in the frontyard-solution of ‘get out the vote.’ But as important as that is to continue doing and not let up… that's simply not where our dark basement problem is. We need to solve that problem too. We need to go down there and arm ourselves with max-lumen flashlights to illuminate what's truly been lost in our assessment of what endgame we're up against on a much deeper level regarding the Supreme Court.
Note these laid out crucial aspects, as described by PhD physics specialist and Twitter/X user, "The Source," of the frame of mind that we need to now collectively and communally shift into, then remain in for the next 6 months:
Wikipedia’s entry on Normalcy bias, or normality bias, describes it as “a cognitive bias which leads people to disbelieve or minimize threat warnings.[1] Consequently, individuals underestimate the likelihood of a disaster, when it might affect them, and its potential adverse effects.[2] The normalcy bias causes many people to prepare inadequately for natural disasters, market crashes, and calamities caused by human error. About 80% of people reportedly display normalcy bias during a disaster.”
80 percent.
Consider your immediate surroundings. Consider your family, friends, community. Now consider all of you being within a structure somewhere… and the unmistakable overwhelming smell of smoke starts wafting in. Only one out of five of you will consider that you all should probably leave the building before you all tragically burn to death.
Whereas the actions of the remaining four out of five of you will effectively demonstrate being more of the mind that… unless that one person out of the five can make a strong enough case to change your natural inclination… you all should just… let it happen. At least until you all start screaming from the beginnings of your bodies being consumed in flame.
80 percent. Really think about that ratio.

Four out of five people in our population… right now… in your community… in your circle of friends… if unchallenged… are poised to simply rationalize away any context of developing catastrophe before them and just… let it happen… screams, anguish, post-regrets of inaction, and all. And to be clear, simply saying, “Let’s neither leave nor put the fire out, but still stay in the burning building and complain about the heat and the smoke until we’re overcome by both”… is not… what taking action means. At all.
Author, Jessica Wildfire, wrote a great article on the selectivity of those within society who actually perceive and prepare for threat, despite whatever degree of unpopularity for doing so, and how the varying range of people’s ability to act on this imperative within society plays into the Covid pandemic. In this article she includes a breakdown on the common patterned stages of societal denialism’s progression, a cognitive disposition which she termed “trojan brain.” I’ve found myself regularly referencing it throughout the “magademic” in terms of how people at different points of progress within out societal timeline have assumed maga’s reach would continue to be detrimental or would simply die out on its own due to acknowledged psychological forces of ineptitude within it. A couple of weeks ago, I updated my own marker of where I believe ‘trojan brainers’ currently are within the their trojan brain stages of perception on the maga impact matter:
We ignore that the maga-influenced Supreme Court is telegraphing right now that they have absolutely no compunction about forcing whatever outcome they want without even feeling they have to bother to show us any kind of genuine logical, law-based rationale to truly justify their ceremoniously assigning Donald Trump the presidency this November, even while they would admit to knowing that Biden will have won... other than... because they want to. Exactly as they have done with each of these other insane rulings to persist in propping up this maga leadership.
They've told us who they are with these insane law merit-free based rulings.
I posit, we should stop acting like we still don't, to some degree, believe them.
Below Glenn Kirschner's (@glennkirschner2) sobering assessment of the state of the Supreme Court right now, which is also queued up in the video to the pertinent point.
I'm confident we can lock in a preventative measure for this Supreme Court propensity towards their repeated corruption to the degree they may very well take it this November, as part of our comprehensive plan to not let America become Nazi Germany in 6 months.
But we actually have to try in the first place.
If we just keep only leaning back on “we’ll just vote”… while yet sweeping this particular threat of a Supreme Court gone completely rogue against all founding principals of this entire country… under the rug...
guess what happens in 6 months with the Supreme Court after the voting is all said and done?
They've done this before.
They've shown they will not hesitate to do it again. And they'll essentially look at us and give us their position of governmental power's version of, "Well, too late - the election's over, our decision is final, so what are you even going to do about it now?"
They're counting on the pattern of opposers not stopping them but merely clutching their pearls in outrage after they've already gotten away with it. And they're fine with that. They don't mind people getting angry afterwards. Because they get to get away with it. 'So fine, be angry,' they can feel perfectly comfortable to reply, '...be angry all you want and we'll sit here having gotten away with it because you didn't stop us beforehand. You simply waited for us to already get away with it, to only then get angry after the fact. And that's all you ever do.' They're putting the approach of 'don't ask for permission, ask for forgiveness' on steroids to an unprecedentedly perverse effect. And, to boot, they're even leaving out the last apology half of that approach all together.
We need to stop them now before it gets to that in November.
Their decision tree is basically: start with methods of leading us towards preventing Biden from becoming president which are still within the law to minimize friction with those who don't share our agenda, and if those attempts don't work, then there's no longer anything to lose by beginning to break the law to accomplish the result they want. Come up with a sound legal argument and if one can't be devised, come up with an unsound legal argument. And if that doesn't work, just start imposing things without any legal argument whatsoever, and still saying it's 'a legal argument.' And if that doesn't work, start imposing things... without saying anything at all.
They've carried out each of these approaches. Every single one. Including the one where they issue 1 page orders without so much as saying much about it at all. They have one standard: under no circumstances, no matter what the election results, no matter who American citizens vote for, no matter how undeniable and straightforward the results are that he won... Stop him from being president anyway.
That's their only agenda. That's it. Simply: cancel President Biden as president for next term no matter what, no matter how illegal. Build the long-game steps towards doing so as legally as possible, but don't give up at the boundary of legal if the boundary of legal doesn't allow for any particular steps along the way to the goal that must be achieved no matter how legally prevented it would otherwise be achieved.
They've now firmly and unequivocally revealed that there is no situation under which the Supreme Court will say, "Ok, looks like you guys won the election, you won fair and square, we will concede and now agree president Biden is president. And we won't stop that." They have revealed that there is no circumstance under which they will do that, no matter what the results are, and no matter how bulletproof and undeniable they are. They are not here as part of this American system of government. They are infiltrators in this system of government with one goal: to overthrow it, overthrow democracy, take down the American governmental system and replace it with Christian Nationalist dictator-led autocracy. And if they have to do anything short of reaching out and choking President Joe Biden with their bare hands live on CNN, they'll do it. And if pushed, perhaps choking him to death isn't off the table either.

Marc’s point leads us to this very serious question: what options do we have, or do we need to start developing for this particular SCOTUS elephant in the room?
Since the Supreme Court keeps doing things that we think they would, one, never do and, two, wouldn't be legal to do... and then... they do them anyway…. it’s at least prudent to start talking about, what if SCOTUS essentially negates the election results after we vote Biden in-- or somehow starts pulling him off ballots for certain states, or at least allows those states to… then tells us that it is their duty to negate Biden's candidacy due to (insert insanely irrational legal excuse here), and place Donald Trump in the White House as our new president instead?
I remember the hanging chads… and the Supreme Court has gone decidedly completely more insane than this with their latest handiwork since then.
They keep doing things that we think are legally inconceivable and completely insane. So the whole "yeah, but they won't do that because it's legally inconceivable and completely insane" rationale is pretty much zero assurance anymore.
Take it from conservative Supreme Court-trial-experienced attorney, activist, & author George Conway as interviewed on The Bulwark by publicist, political pundit & Longwell Partners CEO, & co-founder of Defending Democracy Together, Sara Longwell (already cued up):
And this problem seems to have very conceivable potential to ruin absolutely anything & everything this November after all the hard work that getting out the vote, then voting itself to get Biden to win the electoral college majority, not to mention the popular vote as well (which I do, nonetheless, believe he's going to) will mean for this country’s ability to continue this amazing national recovery we’ve managed to find within this administration for the US... versus all of these successful efforts to bounce back as a nation... being completely undone a few months from now, only to plunge this country into the darkest, most horrifically life despairing, existential political and societal dystopia it has ever known since its very creation. There are plenty of nations throughout history who have found themselves either suddenly, or gradually, yet usually insidiously, collapsed into a daily waking nightmare for all its citizens, from which they don’t emerge for decades… such that if we let this happen to us this November… our lives as we know them would essentially be over from that point forward… not likely for our life span itself to extend beyond the potential cycles of generations required to pull the United States back out from falling to a networked worldwide fascist dictatorship fortified by Russian and Chinese communist forces with which Dictator Donald Trump has already made allying arrangements.
And since SCOTUS has been literally violating, not only the clear and unambiguous law of the Constitution, but also complete rational sense in pulling what they've been pulling and sending shockwaves through the entire nation when they do it... we really need to get on coming up with some type of preemptive legal contingency/strategy to disempower their ability to bend our country against every law of the land to negate Biden's win... and we need to focus on figuring out how to do so before November.
It sounds crazy now to even consider.
Just about as crazy as everything else we didn't consider that the Supreme Court has, indeed, repeatedly shown their brazen, and undaunted propensity to do, dropping the jaws of every legal and constitutional scholar in the nation when they've done it.
Consider this latest response to yet another recent example of how the United States Supreme Court is an unmitigated shit-show of ever escalatingly compromised corruption, the likes of which our nation has never before seen (I say, without hyperbole, unlike someone I could name), as so given by TalkingFeds’ host & current litigator, HarryLitman, arguably one of the most otherwise even-keeled, impartial, though no less incisive legal political analysts in media right now:

This is a call to action to start planning, rather than a call to action to say listen to my plan. I believe this is going to take a comprehensive strategy from the melding together of minds, not unlike the scientists of Apollo 13 who put their heads together to assess and resolve the litany of life ending problems that kept springing up and exacerbating the ever-mounting dangers in that mission, with their ending up, nevertheless, successfully strategizing how to save that crew using only the repurposed scraps available on the ship.
We need to start talking about this the same way we do so well with the needed work of talking about encouraging everybody to vote. But we need to stop leaving this Supreme Court November Shanghai potential out of the conversation. Because SCOTUS is counting on our repeatedly never conceiving of, let alone planning for it.
We have 6 months to strategize against their maneuvering for this final play that they're telegraphing right now. 6 months to plan. 6 months to brainstorm. 6 months to start talking with strategists who can start gaming out the scenarios and preemptively removing the teeth of Supreme Court’s maneuvering efforts now… before we're otherwise blindsided in November.
Marc Elias' answer to Brian Tyler Cohen's question about one of the methods employed in why the Supreme Court sometimes give smaller 'good' rulings:

The United States Supreme Court is the key.
They have absolute power.
They are corrupt.
No one is currently stopping them.
None of any of what we're talking about at all in this entire matrix of election concerns matters until we face this problem with the United States Supreme Court.

If we don't face this, we will continue running around with the busy work of every other political concern, valid though they are. And we may likely even make progress with that busy work… yet to then only realize that it will have been rendered nothing more than busy work once the Supreme Court negates the endgame results, come this November, from all these efforts made.
The Supreme Court is the key.
Unless we figure out how to stop them. They will have no moral problem Shanghaiing every single success we make, regardless of propriety or legality, much less societal stability, then place Donald Trump in power and end our democracy with his confirmed dictatorship, and the rapidly ensuing fall of America.
If we're not doing anything to stop the Supreme Court from doing this, then effectively… we're not doing anything else that will matter which will stop this from happening.
Think of it as a meteor heading towards planet Earth that will destroy the planet. Yes we need to work on climate change. But if we're not effectively preventing the meteor’s imminent impact, the work we're doing on climate change is meaningless. There is no compromise to be made with, in any way, letting the impact of a meteor destroy the earth. There is no compromise to be made with, in any way, allowing the Supreme Court to take any steps to usher in a Christian Nationalist Neo-fascist new Nazi Germany America in 6 months. There is no, "oh well, we tried but we're going to have to let them do this because we couldn't find the right rule," response that is acceptable. In no way, under no circumstance can we allow them to do what they are telling us they are indeed going to do. There is no room for allowance for going ahead and just permitting them to destroy America and sending American citizens down a road of collapsed rights, executions, detention camps, and inflaming world war 3 sentiments globally. There is no version of allowing them to do this under any circumstance. This is the meteor heading to Earth... being assisted by Russian-overthrowing forces against our country, to completely obliterate us as a nation...

The United States Supreme Court is a nine-person body imbued with absolute power and they've been infiltrated by Christian Nationalists who mean to dismantle democracy and turn the US into a fascist theocracy. If we don’t gather all of our citizens, our elected political allies, experts in the field of law, politics, activism, psychology, military strategists, and start braintrusting the actual fvck out of this impending political coup… then we're mere inert spectators in our own governmental, societal, and personal demise…
which will take place in about 6 months, by the end of 2024…
unless the United States Supreme Court is stopped.
More of us are calling more of us to action.
And through this call, gradually more and more people are starting to get dialed in and start thinking. Strategies... are beginning to be considered. Which is why we need more talking about this to accelerate and crowdsource this process with a pro-active and relentless ferocity.
As an example, MeidasTouch Network's legal analyst and former federal prosecutor, Shan Wu reminds us that, despite many feeling we're helpless to stop the compromised United States Supreme Court from carrying out their agenda to destroy the nation's system of democracy and replace it with a Christian Nationalist theocracy while undoing protections for all Americans from absolute power of a presidential candidate gone clinically insane... and so we all just supposedly have to agree to say goodbye to our country in 6 months and... let them do it... we don't. Not at all.
He points out that, so far, the 'checks and balances' ball is currently in The U.S. Department of Justice's... court... so to speak. They are one body of government in particular we should, thus, be vocally engaging & talking up their relevance to everyone within the context of... resolving this compromised U.S. Supreme Court threat once and for all. They have been telegraphing what they are going to do to us for years and it's coming to a head this November.

This is the biggest thing that so many of us are watching no else one pay attention… to this growing certainty being telegraphed by the Supreme Court that we do not want to be right about.
None of us wants to be able to say, “I told you so but no one listened.” Because there will be no satisfaction whatsoever in being right. There will only be devastation, and the deeply profound frustration of knowing what was coming, and knowing that nobody was even bothering to plan for stopping it. And that the lack of even trying, as it were, would be the reason why the Supreme Court walked us right off a societal cliff come November without so much of a peep of effective action from anyone in the country.
6 months is what we have left to prevent them from ending… all of this.
6 months to get ready, get set, strategize… and prevent them from ending the republic, and starting the darkest period of the United States of America in our nation’s entire history.
So...
let's plan to plan and, worst case, be able to say… we didn't need one…
rather than need one and not have one… right smack dab in the middle of the Supreme Court suddenly blindsiding America in November with such a problem… when it's too late to do anything but wish we had thought about it 6 months before…

Witness what’s happening. Witness the volume of pieces being written at an ever-increasing rate. This is the smoke. This is the temperature rising. The fire… is spreading. So ask yourself: on which side of the 4:1 normalcy bias ratio… are you?
Do you refuse to just sit… and… go up in flames? Are you resisting ‘trojan brain?’
Have you already started talking about the Supreme Court problem with everyone you can?
Or are you ready to, at least… start?
I’m, personally, not going to stop… until at least 2025.
Because I refuse to share the mentality of the majority of characters in Netflix’s “Don’t Look Up.” Not even sure how we got to the point in this country… where I’m, legit, actually left inspired to type this as the last paragraph of this piece. And yet… here we are.
One final sobering note to the wealthy... the multi-millionaires and the billionaires: who are counting on Donald Trump to sweeten their pockets if elected?...
